Explore the "Green Design Code" at WGDO Freiburg Summit

2014 World Green Design Freiburg summit was held on October 20 in Freiburg in Germany, a city with the title of “Green Capital”. The theme of the summit is "Green City Motivates Green Civilization." With the rapid development of economy and globalization, environmental issues have become some of the most important ones. How can the Chinese and European green economies be remodeled? How can the sustainable development be achieved through "green design"? More than 200 dignitaries, environmental experts, designers and entrepreneurs from around the world discussed how to promote global sustainable development and to interpret "green design code" with the concept of green design, using new materials and new technologies.


At the opening ceremony, the environment commissioner of European Commission Janez Potočnik gave an opening address to the conference audience.; Speeches were also delivered by the former chairman of German Savings Bank in Freiburg of the North Bryce Holst Gurry, and the chairman of the World Green Design Organization and the counselor of China State Council Shi Dinghuan. In addition, Chinese Ambassador to Germany Shi Mingde also sent a congratulatory letter to the forum.

Ideas determine outcomes.

Dr. Bernd Dallmann, President of Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe in Freiburg, Germany, introduced the background and process of the green urban development in German and standards and rules of constructing low-carbon city in China. Moreover, he analyzed the possibility of constructing green cites in China and Germany. Wang Wei, the director of financial professionals of Global China Business KPMG, by combining his theoretical knowledge with his practical experience of 22 years’ of development process in China, analyzed the prospect of cooperation between China and German in green design and the new trend of China's overseas investment based on the aspect of the investment climate in Central Europe. Zhu Renmin, Chinese painter and the dean of Landscape Art Research Institute of Zhejiang University, created a new discipline called "Human Ecology prosthetics", which took him 30 years. At the meeting, by presenting example cases he interpreted ways of carrying out the arduous repair work of the Chinese rivers, deserts, bare cliff and other typical landforms from the perspective of design means. He was named "China's Leonardo da Vinci" by the United Nations for his phenomenal job of saving the ecology with art.

Industry guides change.

Guests from companies in China brought some commercial cooperation opportunities and docking projects to the Freiburg summit, and explored opportunities for cooperating with the guests from ten countries in Europe. Xia Qing, Chairman of North Water Diversion Project Commission of the State Council Expert Committee, delivered a speech titled "Urban Green Circle on the Basis of Green Design”, and analyzed the drawbacks of industrialization and urbanization from four perspectives: urbanization ending the cycle of urban green development; low-carbon ecology recalls civilization; green design reboots the cycle of green development; and the future city harvest green profits. When human beings entered the postmodern era, they began to call for city’s material, energy, ecological, and low-carbon information flow. In addition, on behalf of the Chinese industry of renewable resource technology innovation and strategic alliance, he expressed the hope that in-depth discussions could be carried out later concerning the introduction of the bioconversion of organic waste resources, sewage treatment, waste disposal and recycling, and other high technologies.

Meanwhile, China is witnessing the quick emergence of “green revolution” in the cleaning industry, a field in which Kaimi Limited is a pioneer. Joint cooperation brings about business opportunities.

Compared with last year, the 2014 Freiburg Summit witnessed a significant increase of new materials, new technologies, and green and cultural investment project matchmaking issues. Topics such as city and environment, development and utilization of new energy sources, recycling economy, and sustainable development attracted wide attention of participants from many countries. Guests from different countries, industries, and fields elaborated their opinions, and revealed their demand for docking, procurement, and investment. They finally reached agreements upon multiple projects including "Central European Green Design Industrial Park Construction", "French Global village settled in Yangzhou", and "Freiburg Assists Touqiao Town in Health Industry Development".

Financial capital adds to extra brilliance.

At the summit, WGDO initiated the establishment of a new special fund called the Green Bank. |The former Vice President of Citi Bank, General Secretary of the WGDO International Finance Committee Meng Qinglin first announced the launching of the Green Bank. The establishment of the fund was co-sponsored by Secretary-General of the Chinese Cultural Industry Investment Fund, Zhu Jiancheng; general manager of Guizhou Shengyin Investment, Wang Mingqiu; and the Chairman of Dalian Public Information Group, Wang Xue Tong. With more than one billion RMB, this fund will increase investment in Chinese and European cultural enterprises, as well as establish a green industrial park in Europe. The co-sponsors elaborated their initiative of promoting green development by means of finance.

Government policies provide support and guidance.

Guests from Chinese and European governments and associations analyzed government policies that support and guide green design and industry, and brought new innovations to their counterparts. Chairman of the UK Sustainable Design Center Martin Zhengde was the creator of more than 250 green innovation workshops, and worked as the head of more than 15 investment projects in EU. He also promoted the sustainable development of electronic products by providing support for more than 600 SMEs in the UK in eco-innovation projects. His interpretation of the EU 2020 Strategy and the operation of innovative approaches in the pilot run of a few cities showed the potential impact of policies upon the development of green design industry.
